Life without colour is inconceivable. And so is life without painting for some. In the old days the art of painting began by grinding pigments for a great master, or by attending a school.
Today there are “open studios” like the Académie de Port-Royal. One learns the art of painting and drawing there. The idea of a “student” has progressively dissolved – painting in open studio has become free of any guidelines or rules. A model is always posing, a still life always set up in the studio. Some days we correct, some days we discuss. And this has become learning the art of Painting.
In the studio, a certain spirit develops – not from professors’ teachings but rather from what one learns independently. At the end of the year, following a group exhibition, a jury elects Port-Royal’s “Grand Prix.” The laureate sees his very first dream come true: a solo exhibition in a Parisian gallery…
